Mary Margaret Whelan (Kelly) passed away on March 19, 2017. She was preceded by her parents, Bernard and Juliann Kelly, and her brother James Kelly. She is survived by her sister Nancy Ann Whelan (Kevin); her children, Robert (Emily), Jennifer (Jeff), and Michael (Chrissy); her grandchildren, Caitlin, Julia, Trinity, Jeffrey, Daniel, Luke, and Ryan; and her longtime companion William Bennett. Mary grew up in Berea, OH and moved to Hampton, VA in 1978.

Mary's life was dedicated to her family and helping others. She loved her second career as a registered nurse. She honorably served as an ICU trauma nurse for eight years at Riverside Hospital. She'll always be remembered for her selflessness, her love of her children and family, and the sparkle in her eye when speaking of her grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3 pm, Friday, March 24, 2017 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave, Hampton. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30-3
