Mary "Frances" Ellis, 90, died Sunday, June 22, 2014. A lifelong Peninsula resident, she graduated from Hampton High School in 1942. Her family went to Washington DC during the war and she worked at the Pentagon until 1946. Upon her return to Hampton, she went to work as a Secretary for Hampton High School and remained there for the next 26 years. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. Preceded in death by her husband, John J. Ellis, Sr., her parents, Charles and Marion Bussenger, and her sisters, Elizabeth Lloyd and Kathleen Bussenger; survivors include her sons, John J. Ellis, Jr. and his wife, Stephanie and Edward "ED" Ellis and his wife, Kathy; a daughter, Marion F. Ford; a brother, Charles E. Bussenger and his wife, Emily; a sister, Charlotte DeShazo and her husband, Eddie; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 26, 2014 at Greenlawn Memorial Park by Pastor Terry Spencer. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM- 10:30 AM at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Memorial Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
