Mary Harris Edmonds, 58, peacefully passed into the arms of our Lord, May 16, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was cared for by her devoted husband, Dr. Robert M. Edmonds and her memory is cherished by their three daughters Claire Angela, Charlotte Ann, and Sarah Virginia Edmonds of Portsmouth, VA. Mary is also survived by her three siblings, Mr. Michael Harris (Nancy), Mrs. Rita Swann (Brian), and Mrs. Linda Matthews (Craig), and her nieces and nephews. Mary was born in Pearisburg, VA to the late Everett and Angela Harris. She earned her Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Virginia in 1981 and advanced her profession with her Masters of Science in Nursing from the VCU Medical College of Virginia School of Nursing in 1988. Mary served as a nurse in various intensive care and cardiac units during her time in Richmond and Hampton Roads.

Mary's inspiring kindness, caring friendship, and genuine smile will be missed by all the lives she touched with positive regard. Mary will be celebrated by her family and friends during a Funeral Mass on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 7:00pm at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Newport News, VA. The family will receive visitors prior to the service at 6:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Gathering of Friends Community at 3316 Foxgrove Lane, Chesapeake, VA 23321.
