Marlene Harden Mann, 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 27, 2025. Born in Newport News, Virginia, she was the daughter of Archie and Helen Harden.
On October 22, 1966, Marlene married Eugene E. Mann, Sr., and together they shared 58 wonderful years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, laughter, and devotion. Marlene was an avid reader who found joy in the written word, a lover of dance, and a lifelong admirer of classic films that reminded her of simpler times.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved son, Donnie Kitchin. Marlene leaves behind a legacy of love in her husband, Eugene E. Mann, Sr.; her children, Marsha Turner (Rick), Neal Kitchin (Claudia), and Eugene "Gene" Mann, Jr. (Sharon); her grandchildren, Jay Loayza (Shenna), Ashley Robinson (Kyle), Alexander Mann, Tristan Mann, Kylee Mann, Armando Kitchin, and Brian J. "BJ" Anderson; and her great-grandchildren, Kyden and Ryan Robinson, and Melody Anderson. She is also survived by her sister, Linda Weatherly (Craig); brothers, Allen Jennings and Jerry Harden; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, Virginia. A funeral service celebrating Marlene's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 2, 2025, at the funeral home. A graveside service will follow at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia at 10 AM on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mark's Methodist Church, 99 E. Mercury Boulevard, Hampton, VA 23669, or to the Salvation Army, causes close to Marlene's generous heart.
