Mark Douglas Boswell. 67, died June 29, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer. Mark was a lifelong resident of Hampton. He enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve after high school and then reenlisted with the Naval Reserves later on. He would go on to serve more than 20 years in the Naval Reserves where he served an active duty deployment to Afghanistan. Mark worked at Newport News Shipbuilding for 19 years and then went on to be a Hampton and Newport News, Sheriff's Deputy. 

Mark was preceded in death by his parents Franklin and Peggy Boswell. He is survived by his brothers, Jeff Boswell (Mae) and Christopher Boswell, as well as nieces, Cora Rodgers, Rebecca Bryant, Peggy Learned, and Amanda Boswell; and ten great nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home on Monday, July 6 from 6-8PM. A graveside service will be held at noon on Tuesday, July 7 at Clark Cemetery on Beach Road in Hampton. 

In lieu of flowers donations in Mark's memory can be made to the Peninsula SPCA or The Doorways at VCU Medical Center on Marshall Ave, Richmond.
