IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marion Moira
Mudd
December 3, 1936 – April 13, 2025
Marion (Moira) Morrison Fraser Mudd, born on December 3, 1936, to Murdo and Isabel Fraser in Scotland, passed away on April 13, 2025, in Mesa, Arizona.
Moira grew up in Scotland, a land she deeply loved and cherished. It was there she met the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Edelen Mudd III, an American "Yank." Talented dancers, Moira and Dick enjoyed many evenings at the dance halls of Glasgow. They were married on December 3, 1963. Their love story took them across the ocean, and she embraced the adventure of a new life in the United States.
Their first daughter, Deborah Marie Fraser Mudd, was born in Scotland. While pregnant with their second daughter, Moira made the courageous journey to America. They arrived in Massachusetts in the summer of 1965, where she was greeted by the sweltering Boston heat—an unexpected contrast to the cool Scottish climate. Soon after, the family settled in Rhode Island, where Maria Sacra Fraser Mudd was born.
The family later moved to Virginia when Richard was stationed at Norfolk Naval Base. It was there that their third daughter, Theresa Morrison Mudd, was born in Portsmouth. After Richard's discharge from the Navy in 1970, they relocated to Richmond, Virginia, where they welcomed their first son, Richard Edelen Mudd IV.
Moira was a devoted wife, mother, and friend. She had a sharp wit, a warm heart, and a steadfast love for her family. She carried her Scottish heritage with pride, often reminiscing about her homeland and instilling in her children a deep appreciation for their roots. She embraced life's challenges with resilience and grace, always putting family first.
Moira had a deep and abiding faith in God. She was an active member of Bethel Temple Assembly of God, where she found great joy, comfort, and community. Her love for church and her unwavering belief guided her throughout her life, providing strength and inspiration to those around her.
She is survived by her children, Deborah Waldeck (Mudd) and husband John, Maria Lockard (Mudd) and husband William (Bill), Theresa Mudd, and Richard Mudd IV and wife Chataime; her grandchildren, Morgan Waldeck, Joshua Waldeck and wife Lena, Brittany (Lockard) Fauber and husband Jeff, William (Billy) Lockard, IV and wife Skylar, Richard Mudd, V and wife JoAnna, Catherine Mudd, and Christiana Mudd; and four great-grandchildren Charlotte and James Waldeck, and William and Genevieve Fauber. She is also survived by nephews, great-nieces and nephews in Scotland, and cousins in Canada.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Edelen Mudd III; her parents, Isabel and Murdo Fraser; and her sister, Lily McInnes.
Moira will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A funeral service will be held on May 20th at 11:00 a.m. at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, with a procession following to Parklawn Memorial Park. A celebration of her life will take place at her grandson's home (ask family for details) on the same day. The service will be live streamed on the funeral home Facebook page or click here.
Rest in peace, Mom.
Your love, laughter, and strength will remain in our hearts forever.
