Obituary

Marilyn Ferguson Warfield of Newport News, VA, died February 19, 2017.  She was born in Menasha, Wisconsin on April 1, 1925.  She was a resident of the Peninsula since 1937.

She was the oldest of twelve children.
She retired from Newport News Shipyard and Dry Dock Co. in 1987.  She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church, where she was a Deacon, a member of the Women of the Church and served as Treasurer. She was a financial wizard and could make a little go a long way. Later in her life, she was a master baker also.  So many people were the recipient of her delicious cakes.

My mother touched so many lives while she was with us. Throughout her working career she made a number of true friends for life.  By her example, she taught me how to be a friend and a joyful and loving grandmother.  She was a Brownie leader, a volunteer for Big Brothers, Big Sisters, a volunteer at Mary Immaculate—visiting those who did not have anyone to visit them, a tutor for Laubach Literacy Action, a volunteer for Newport News Public Schools at Saunders School and for the Living Museum.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her father, James C. Ferguson, her mother, Julia V. Ferguson, four brothers - Daniel Ferguson, James Ferguson, Robert Ferguson and Kenneth Ferguson and two sisters Geraldine F. Roche and Elaine Arbogast.
She is survived by her daughter Sandra Brannon (Robert- mom's Bob), granddaughter, Renee Baldwin (Jeff), great-grandson, Jacob Baldwin and step grandchildren Tyrin and Juree Dews, Dezma Hinton, Rhonda Brannon, and Brianna and Sara Brannon.  She is survived by one brother, Dick Ferguson, and four sisters, Phyllis Callicott (Joe), Annette Haynes, Charlotte Darnell (Richard), and Jeanette King (Robert).  She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

The last years of her life, mom was blessed by God with wonderful and caring caregivers and friends:  Fern Moore, Brenda Brown, Betty Graves, Viola Thomas, and recently by Helena Jefferson and Louesther Jones.
Mom decided a number of years ago to be cremated. A memorial will be held at a later date.  The family wishes expression of sympathy to take the form of a contribution to organizations that provide food to the hungry.  She always prayed for those without.

Marilyn loved the Lord with all her heart and mind and looked forward to being with Him forever.

Arrangements are by Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions in Hampton, 757-825-8070.
