Marie E. Shields, 79, died Wednesday, May 11, 2022. Born in Dixie Hospital, she was a lifelong Hampton resident where she worked for many years for Bonn's Supermarket in downtown Newport News, BeLo Supermarket in the Buckroe Shopping Center, and more recently at Hampton Walmart. She was a longtime member of Huntington Mennonite Church.

Preceded in death by her husband, Carroll T. Shields; survivors include her daughters, Sherri Norton and Cheryl Galito (Chip); her son, John David Reeps (Diane); her brother, David Blount (Patti); five grandchildren, Makayla, Brandon, Chelsea, Benjamin, and Megumi; and two great-granddaughters, Fiona and Cali.

Marie loved serving the customers when she worked and they became family to her wherever she was. Marie used these opportunities to love as Jesus loves. She displayed her faith in many small acts of love to everyone around her. She was not a pastor or a missionary but embodied the teachings of Jesus Christ to "...love one another; as I have loved you..."( John 13:34). Marie was never boastful in her faith, but always reminded everyone that, "It's all about Jesus". Marie's message was to love unconditionally, to give with both hands, and remind everyone that they are both valuable and precious. Whether you knew her for years, or you have just met, every encounter with Marie was an encounter with the love of God. In honor of her memory, her family will always respond to "I love you" with " I love you more".

We would like to thank Riverside Hospice, especially Sheila, Brenae, Denise, and Chaplain Cheralyn for the comfort they gave the family these last few weeks. We would have never gotten through this without you!

A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday, May 21, 2022 at All Generations Church, 28 Harpersville Road, Newport News Virginia.
