IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marian J
Cotton
December 15, 1936 – April 6, 2024
Marian J. Cotton was born in Sampson County, NC on December 15, 1936 and passed away on April 6, 2024 surrounded by her family after a brief unexpected illness.
Marian married her high school sweetheart, Denver Lee Cotton and moved to Hampton, Virginia in 1958 where she resided until her passing. She was a dedicated member of Langley Baptist Church and happy to do God's work and volunteered for Meal-on-Wheels and the VA Hospital. She worked at Leggett's in Newport News, VA and later was employed by Macy's. Marian briefly retired before joining her son's company, Controlled Environments, Inc. as the office manager and then finally retired after several years of service. Marian loved excitement and played a pivotal role in helping to plan the Extreme Makeover Home Edition build in Virginia Beach alongside her son, Duane in 2011. While at home, Marian most enjoyed gardening and working in her yard, as she loved the outdoors. She was the happiest to spend time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Julia and Prentis Jackson, husband Denver Cotton, brother Wyatt (Bo) Jackson, sister Judy Rierson, and son Jeffery Cotton.
She is survived by her sister Shirley Best of North Carolina, brother Lemuel (McCoy) Jackson (Hilda) of North Carolina, daughter Debbie Roscopf (Lee) of Newport News, VA, son Duane Cotton (Becky) of Chesapeake, VA, grandchildren Heather Cotton (Chris), Courtney Sibley (Craig), Dana Ardary (Brendon), Haley Cotton, Alexa Cotton, and Gavin Cotton. She leaves behind her great grandchildren Lola Cotton, Alana Cotton, Cambrie Ardary, Aiden Powell, and Fallon Ardary along with her nieces and nephews and her beloved faithful companion dog, Romo.
A funeral service will be held at Langley Baptist Church on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 9:30AM. Interment with her husband in Parklawn Memorial Park will follow immediately after the service.
