Margaret E. (Welch) Prantl, 80, of Yorktown, VA died on May 31, 2018. She was the widow of CW4 (Ret) Carl Prantl, Sr. She was born in Red Bank, NJ., moving to the Peninsula in 1973.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas F. Welch, Jr., two brothers, Thomas F. Welch III and William J. Welch, and a sister, Kathyrn M. Xanthos.
She is survived by four sons; Carl Prantl Jr. (Debra) of Fairfax Station, VA, William Prantl (MaryEllen) of Ellicott City, MD, Thomas Prantl (Joanne) of Rockledge, FL and Harry Prantl (Nancy) of Colorado Springs, CO, six grand-children; CPT Caitlin Irby (Jack), Andrew Prantl, Courtney Prantl, McKenzie Prantl, Nicholas Prantl and Kyle Prantl; sister-in-law Carol Welch of Red Bank, NJ; one great grandson Jack Irby IV, and many nieces and nephews in New Jersey and Ohio.
She will be remembered for her infectious laughter, warm smile and the kindness she showed others. Peggy enjoyed working at "Jeff's Flowers, of Course" for over 20 years, was very active in her community's Home Owner's Association and enjoyed several volunteer activities to include Meals on Wheels. She was also an avid bowler and traveler.
Peggy was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Hampton and a congregant of the Coast Guard Chapel in Yorktown.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave. Hampton, VA 23669. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 512 Buckroe Ave., Hampton, VA 23664 on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 10 am with a reception to follow at the church. Interment will follow at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the following charities/organizations; Intrepid Hospice Memorial Fund, the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.
