Obituary

Margaret Black McIntyre, fondly known as "Marge" died on August 23 at Riverside Convalescent Center in Saluda. She was 86 years old. Born in Erie, PA, Marge lived there until her marriage to Joseph who died in 1990. She graduated from Academy High School and the GE Business School in Erie. Marge traveled with her Air force husband making a home and friends wherever she went. Their favorite places during their military tours were Bermuda and Germany. Marge's six precious children were born during these Air force traveling assignments in various states and countries and now survive her. They are: Evelyn Britton and husband Craig from Hartfield, VA; Bruce McIntyre from Chester, VA; Maureen Fontaine and her husband Ralph from Sequim, Washington; Janet Ciesielski and husband Don from Chesapeake; Jay McIntyre and Cathy Ruff from Norfolk; and Sharon Curtis and her husband Gary from Hampton. Marge is also cherished as "Grandma" by ten grandchildren and eight great-grand children. Nephew Matthew Black, his wife Annabelle and great nephew Alexander are from North Carolina. Her dearest cousin, Lois Vosmus, lives in Erie, PA. Marge enjoyed the company of many special friends during her lifetime, especially: Marilyn Woodall, Valita Howard, Elizabeth Luttrell, and Evelyn Turner who supported and encouraged her during the later years. A beloved sister, Evelyn Black, parents Alex and Frances Black and her favorite Aunt, Helen Vosmus from Erie, PA preceded Marge in death. Marge also lived a number of years in Hampton and Newport News. She was employed by Virginia National Bank and Riverside Convalescent Center (previously Patrick Henry Hospital) where she was a receptionist and telephone operator. Her favorite hobbies were reading, writing in her journal, participating in Bible Studies, visiting her grandchildren, watching the clouds, and volunteering through various church social ministries. She served as a Eucharistic and Healing Minister in the Reaching Out and Port Ministries, and was a sponsor in the R.C.I.A/Remember Program. Marge was formerly a member of St. Joseph's Church in Hampton, St. Jerome's in Newport News and currently a long time member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Newport News. Her gift of compassion, especially for the poor, grieving and lonely have touched and encouraged many over the years. The family wishes to thank the staff of Riverside Convalescent Center in Saluda for their exceptional care and to Lynn Richardson, from The Church of the Visitation, for her many faithful visits. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church on 100 Harpersville Road in Newport News on Wednesday, August 26 at 11:00am. Visitation will occur prior to the Mass beginning at 9:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the OLMC Poor Fund or Pregnancy Outreach at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. In honor of Marge's heart for social ministry, all are asked to bring a can of food to the funeral. Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions will be handling the arrangements.
