Marceline D. "Mickey" Whitley, 93, died Tuesday, March 28, 2017. Born in Lenoir, NC, she had been a Peninsula resident since 1953. An excellent seamstress, she worked for many years for Weather Rogue in Newport News where she made many London Fog coats and she made many dresses for her daughters and curtains for her son. A very loving and caring person, she and her husband were foster parents to many children whose lives they enriched. She was a member of the Flatland Cloggers.

Preceded in death by her husband, Cromer J. Whitley and a daughter, Barbara Whitley; survivors include her children, Brenda Sawyer and her husband, Ty of Gloucester, Ronald Whitley and his wife, Teri of Hampton, and Kaye Freeman and her husband, Tyler of Portsmouth; her four grandchildren, Dee, Melinda, Dawn, Jamie, and David; and several great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 5PM on Saturday, April 1, 2017 in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home chapel.
