Manford Reed Groves, 85, passed away Monday, January 19, 2015. Born in Montgomery, Fayette Co., WV. He served in the Air Force starting in 1951 and retired from the active reserves in 1991 at the rank of Major. He had active duty assignments in Europe, Korea and several bases in the U.S. He settled in Hampton in 1964. He retired from NASA Langley Research Center in 1991 where he worked as a wind tunnel test technician. Manford was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Lou Pettet Groves and survived by their children, Susan L. Harris, Gay Linda Dillinger, William R. Groves, and Lori Buzzard, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his current wife Thelma Bernice Groves and sister Jessie G "Peggy" Fulton. A committal service will be conducted at 10:00 AM Saturday at Parklawn Memorial Park. Immediately following at 11:00, a memorial service will be conducted at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in downtown Hampton, by Rev. Lawrence Biermann.
