Obituary

Mae Hoppe Burcher, 86, died Thursday, July 6, 2017. Born in Hampton, she was a longtime Yorktown resident where she worked in banking and drove a York County school bus for many years and was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church. Very active in the International Order of Job's Daughters, she was a charter member, Past Honored Queen, and Past Guardian of Bethel 13, Hampton and had served as Grand Guardian of Virginia. She also served as head of Mother's March for the March of Dimes for several years.

Preceded in death by her parents, Albert C. and Madeline Johnson Hoppe and her husband, Howard T. Burcher; survivors include her children, Julia B. Smith and Miles C. Burcher, II; her granddaughter, Pamela Lynn Smith all of Grafton; and her special friends and neighbors, Rita, Cyrus, Sabrina and Regina Edlow.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 8, 2017 in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to St. Luke's United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
