Madonna O. Johnson, born January 11, 1951 in Statesville, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2016. She was 65. Donna moved to Newport News at the age of 6. Animals were a big part of Donna's life and she loved them all. She had a particular affinity for dogs, cats and monkeys. She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Ward of Newport News, VA. Donna is survived by her husband of 44 years, Michael Johnson; her father, Bobby Owens of Goldsboro, NC; and her aunt, Betty Minton of Statesville, NC. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 pm on Friday, August 26 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, Hampton, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to The Peninsula SPCA in Donna's name.
