"...weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. Psalm 30:5. And so it did November 26, 2016 for Lucille Wenger who can now rest. This small town girl from Columbus County, NC moved to Hampton, Virginia in 1956 and raised a daughter, Gail Norris (Danny) and son Jimmy Rackley (Suzanne). She is survived by her sisters, Mary Williamson, Faye Blanton, Pearl Ball and Judy MacPherson and predeceased by her sister Alice Watts, and brothers Dobie Wright, Lloyd Wright, Harold Dean Wright, Harry Lee Wright and Robert Wright. She was great grandmother to Emily Knight and grandmother to Kristine and Brian Norris, Justin and Kyle Rackley, Michael, Timothy and Jeffrey Baumann and Emily and Steven Nuckolls.
She and her supportive husband, Bill marked their 30th wedding anniversary on the day of her passing.
Lucille was a loyal worker for Maida Development Company and Gambro Industries until her retirement in 1998. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and time with her family, and was famous for her buttermilk biscuits. She was active at Langley Christian Church where she taught Sunday School in the children's department.
The family wishes to acknowledge Dr. John Mattern of Virginia Oncology Associates for his care of Lucille for more than 30 years. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society

The family will receive from 9:30-10:30 am Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in downtown Hampton. Immediately following at 10:30 am a funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home chapel by Derek Robinson and Frank Forehand. Private interment services will take place later.
