IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lucille Atkins
Beasley
October 30, 1931 – April 15, 2025
Lucille "Lou" Beasley, age 93, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, in Richmond, Virginia, with her daughters by her side. Lou lived a long and full life, marked by resilience, warmth, and a deep love for her family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor.
Lou was preceded in death by her devoted husband of over 60 years, David Beasley. She is survived by her loving brother, Garrett Atkins; her daughters, Lauren McLees (Kevin) and Ellen Purcell; and her cherished grandchildren, Garrett McLees (Corinne), Trent McLees (Morgan), Leslie Purcell, and Lianna Chase (Brian). Lou's legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Kiernan, Rylan, Ashlynn, and Lucy, who brought her immense joy and pride. She is also survived by loving nephews Zane Scott (Rebecca), Hugh Scott (Cindy), and Carl Scott (Cindy).
Lou attended Pan American Business School and began her early career with the Richmond Juvenile Court. Later, she found her true calling in nurturing young minds as a preschool teacher at First United Methodist Church in Hampton, Virginia. Her time there was deeply fulfilling; she took great pride in watching her students grow and formed lifelong friendships with many of the families and fellow teachers whose lives she touched.
A woman of deep faith, Lou was an active and devoted member of First United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She served her church family with love and humility and found strength and joy in her UMW Circle and Church community. She was also a proud member of P.E.O. Chapter A, where she cherished the opportunity to support charitable and educational initiatives and build lasting friendships with fellow members.
Lou had a creative spirit and a loving heart. She delighted in sewing, arts and crafts, and found great joy in sharing her talents with her grandchildren. Whether stitching something special or spending an afternoon creating with little hands by her side, Lou's quiet joy came from bringing beauty and love into everyday moments. She loved her family trips to the beach, cooking (always without a recipe and from her heart), spending time with her family and friends, a game of bridge and getting lost in a good book. She could weave an amazing "wild tale" for her grandchildren and great grands and inspired imagination and creative play whenever she got the chance.
Lou leaves a legacy of kindness, compassion, and love—qualities she generously shared with everyone she met.
