Obituary

HAMPTON - Lt Col (Ret) Gloria W. F. Lewis passed away 26 November in Hampton VA, after a courageous fight with cancer and has gone to a better place. She was born in El Paso TX, 3 May 1948, and raised in Seminole TX on a ranch with 63 sections, by her grandmother Zylphorah Holladay Fulfer and her grandfather Foster Fulfer who worked as foreman for the Matador Land and Cattle Company. Gloria graduated from the University of Texas in 1970 "Hook-Em-Horns." She subsequently joined the US Air Force serving in Thailand at the end of the Vietnam War , Clark AFB in the Philippines, was an instructor at the Officer's Training School in San Antonio TX, Transportation Squadron Commander at Wiesbaden AB Germany, Pacific Air Command Hickam AFB Hawaii, Transportation Squadron Commander Osan AB Korea, Director of Contingency Plans Travis AFB CA, and Military Traffic Management Command Washington DC, retiring in 1994.

She met her husband of 27 years Col (Ret) Howard J. Lewis in the Air Force. She was the love of his life! Gloria was also the first female single parent allowed into the US Air Force paving the way for women in the future. She served with ValuJet in Florida, and set up the logistics network for the United Nations in Sierra Leone, Africa. Gloria rode a camel amongst the pyramids in Egypt, flew in a glider over the Sierra Nevada mountains in Tehachapi CA, sailed in a 41 foot Morgan sailboat across the Florida Keys, she was a world traveler and everyone who ever met her loved her! Gloria was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, and charitable organizations like the Hampton Exchange Club.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her father Matt Wiley Fulfer, and her aunts Dorothy Fulfer Phifer and Fausteena Fulfer Mckinley. She is survived by her husband, her daughters Holladay Colleen Cummings and Carel Lewis Peacock, and grandchildren Jackson Wiley Cummings, Maximus Parker Cummings, James Nolan and Elizabeth Lauren Peacock, and to mention BTDT and DBOR.

A memorial service will be held 13 January 1:00PM at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 250 Fox Hill Road, Hampton VA 23669. In lieu of flowers, please support a
