Lt. Col. Paul Robert Macklin has "Gone West" to join his beloved Berniece on August 25, 2017. Bob was a man who fiercely loved his family, country and God. He was a loyal, kind man who was quick to selflessly help those in need.
Bob was born on January 9th, 1934 in Buffalo, New York to Evelyn and John Macklin. Bob and his younger brother Peter were raised by their mother and step-father George Kozma in Worcester Mass, after a tragic accident claimed the life of Bob's father. Bob joined the Air Force on August 15, 1955, after graduating from Davis and Elkins College. While in pilot training in San Angelo Texas he met Berniece his cherished wife and partner of 60 years.
Bob was awarded many awards and commendations during his 24 year career with the Air Force. He piloted C-130's and C-141's while stationed in Europe and the Pacific, and completed combat missions in Southeast Asia.
Bob taught by example, living a life of integrity and service. During his retirement years he volunteered many service hours including work with the Salvation Army and Meals on Wheels.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Berniece, his parents and his brother Peter. He is survived by his son Paul R. Macklin, Jr (Lisa) of Arvada, CO; daughter Amy Bartley (Rich) of Newport News; daughter Kristi Macklin (John) of Tappahannock VA; grandchildren, Jessee and Jacob Macklin of Arvada CO; Victoria Bartley of Yorktown VA, Nathan and Kayla Bartley of Newport News; Sara and Jordan Akers of Tappahannock VA and great grandson, James Mueller of Yorktown, VA.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, VA on Friday, September 1, 2017 at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity in Bob and Berniece's memory.
