Obituary

Lt. Col. Colby D. Rehmert (US Army, Ret.) died peacefully at Portsmouth Naval Hospital on March 6, 2017.

Born in Burdette, KS June 4, 1935, he was active in sports all his life, starting with Junior High football and ending with his dear golfing buddies, Doug and Jerry. After graduating from Jetmore High, he attended Kansas University where he received recognition in his military ROTC. His years in the US Army rewarded him with many honors including three medals for meritorious service and achievement. After Korea, Vietnam and other overseas duties, he retired in 1981.

Later, after adjusting to civilian life, he rented and bought a marble factory located in Virginia Beach where he met his loving wife, Gail in 1986. They married in 1988 and have been each other's soulmate ever since. The picture above is her painting of her loving husband. Another equal love in his life was his two children, Brent Rehmert of Virginia Beach and Lynette Wier of Broken Arrow, OK. He adored all of their children as well as Gail's children. All of our hearts are broken with his death.

Colby's wonderful, easy ways and love of the outdoors, his boat and taking everyone out on the river, together with his quest for staying busy and tending his yard, boat, home, and golf game caused him to be loved by all who knew him. His family will dearly miss him now and forever.

The family thanks the very caring staff and doctors at Portsmouth Naval Hospital for their genuine concern for him and his family, and their excellent attendance and help.

A graveside service will full Army honors will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Parklawn Memorial Park.
