Louis Earldean Kuykendall, 88, of Hampton, passed away November 20, 2022 at Coliseum Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  Son of the late William and Carrie Kuykendall, he was born February17, 1934, in Cherokee County, SC.

Louis attended Bessemer City High School in North Carolina, later earning his diploma. He worked for the Newport News Shipyard for 40 years and retired as a Master Shipbuilder. He was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church in Hampton where he served as Choir Director, Deacon, Sunday School teacher and in other leadership roles for nearly 40 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Elaine Binder Kuykendall, sisters Nora Yarbrough, Margie Lovelace, Bertha McNichols, and Lois Coble, and brothers Walter Kuykendall and Kirk Kuykendall.

Mr. Kuykendall is survived by his daughter, Debbie Buras and husband Mark of Seaford, DE; son, Rev. Dr. Louis E. Kuykendall, Jr. and wife Dr. Sally Kuykendall of Harleysville, PA; brother-in-law, Morty Binder and wife Ruth of Newport News; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; special nieces Donna Lynn Reynolds Dean and Jackie Reynolds, and special family friends Jenifer Posey, Evelyn Boone and Dave and Connie Wescott.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 26, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, with a funeral service, officiated by Pastor Bob Wrenn, beginning at 2:00 PM. Interment will be private.
