IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lonnie D.
Servais
January 30, 1950 – April 29, 2024
January 30, 1950 – April 29, 2024
Today, Lonnie went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ after a long, courageous battle with cancer. The Lord gave Lonnie 74 years on the earth beginning on January 30, 1950 in Tampa Florida when he was given to two loving parents, Kenneth and Verna Servais.
Lonnie is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth G. and Verna Mae Servais, his maternal grandparents, George and Eva Joniaux, and his paternal grandparents, Clifford and Lilly Servais.
Lonnie is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Vickie, his two beautiful daughters Loni-Marie Smith and Ashlie Nicole Vaughan (Christopher). Vickie has been his soulmate for 48 years. The most fun they had was spending days together at Busch Gardens and Water Country for many years. He is also survived by his two sisters, Denise Turner of Evans, Georgia and Jae-Nee Ausley of Leonardtown, MD; two brothers, Guy G. Servais of Elizabeth City, NC and Christopher Servais of Clifton, Mississippi; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Since Lonnie's father was in the US Air Force, Lonnie got to travel to many locations including all of Europe. His family settled in Hampton VA in 1962. Upon graduating from ODU in 1972, Lonnie taught Math for the Hampton City School system for 34 years. He loved his students and teaching. He especially loved working with teenagers.
After retiring from teaching, Lonnie became a Care Driver for the American Cancer Society driving patients to treatments over 700 times. His patients became like family to him. Lonnie also loved to tutor kids in math for free because he knew how expensive tutors could be.
Lonnie became a member of the Exchange Club of Wythe in 2006, serving as a board member and numerous terms as the Secretary.
The gift God gave Lonnie was music and Lonnie, like his mother, taught himself to play the organ. Following in her footsteps, Lonnie played the organ in church for 16+ years.
Lonnie loved hanging out with his friends, especially on the golf course. He loved to watch baseball and football. His favorite teams were the Atlanta Braves and The Green Bay Packers. He had to be a cheese head because both of his parents were from Green Bay! His children gave him a share in the Packers for Christmas one year, so he was a proud owner of the Green Bay Packers.
Lonnie's greatest Love in Life was his Savior, Jesus Christ. Jesus was the center of his life and he always loved to talk to others about his Savior.
