Obituary

Miss Lois Dickey passed away on December 1, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Lois was born on May 1 in Long Beach, California to CWO Milton Harvey Dickey and Louise Boytim Dickey seven weeks after the major earthquake of 1933. When Mr. Dickey retired from the Navy in 1940 at the outbreak of WWII, he moved the family back to Newport News for the war effort. They never left again.

Lois was a 1950 graduate of Warwick High School; a 1959 graduate of William & Mary Extension in Norfolk (now ODU); and earned a Masters Degree from Hampton Institute in 1975 (now Hampton University.) She worked as a hematologist for many years at Hampton General Hospital and was an adjunct professor at Thomas Nelson Community College.

Lois was known for her kindness and life-long love of cats. She was an avid fisherwoman and fished the waters from Chincoteague to the Outer Banks.

She leaves behind one sister, Joan Dickey Charles and cousins Martha Edmondson and Sarah Renner. Lois is also survived by long time and loyal BFF, Miss Anna Reid who was her travel and fishing companion and who faithfully saw Lois through her long illness.
