Lloyd B. Evans, loving father of Hampton, Virginia went home to be with the Lord on January 13, 2019, following a short illness at the age of 72. Lloyd was married for 54 years to his ever-faithful wife Beverly. Family life was important to him and Beverly. He is survived by his daughters Regina Wright (Steven), Tonya Lewis (Juliet), and Miosha Bentley. His grandchildren affectionally called him Papa - Akeeva Ewell (Robert), Marcellus (Brooke) and Jada Wright, Michelle Bentley, a great-grandchild Anaya Ewell and a host of nieces and nephews. Lloyd expressed the importance of education constantly and pursued it himself with vigor. The Air Force and anything aeronautical was his passion. He was a faithful church member of Macedonia Baptist Church for 20 years.
Lloyd was born on June 3, 1946, in the Bronx, New York. He attended John Adams High School in South Ozone Park, New York. While on active duty, Lloyd completed his GED and undergraduate education. He later completed a Masters and Ed.S degree in Education Leadership at Old Dominion University. He entered the United States Air Force in December 1963 and began his Basic training at Lackland Air Force. Upon completion, Lloyd was transferred to Keesler AFB, Mississippi for Technical Training as a Radar Technician. He rose to the highest enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant. distinguish career of 26 years is marked with numerous milestones including Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) of the Month four times, NCO of the Year, Qualified as First Enlisted Radar Weapons Controller (Jet May 1975). His decorations includes the Meritorious Medal with 1 Oak leaf Cluster (OLC), Air Force Commendation Medal with 5 OLCs, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 7 OLCs, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Readiness Medal with5 OLC's, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with 5 OLC's, Air Overseas Short Tour Ribbon with 3 OLC's, Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon, Air Force Small Arms Expert marksmanship Ribbon, Air Force Training ribbon, Lloyd's last assignment was Superintendent, Headquarters 1st Air Force Region Operations Control Center, Langley Air Force Base, Hampton, Virginia. He retired from the Air force on February 1, 1990. He began his NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) Career August 1990, as Manager, NASA Graduate Student Researchers Program (GSRP) & National Research Council Resident Research Associateship Program (NRC RRA).
The University Programs Officer (UPO) is the main Langley Research Center (LaRC) focal point for ongoing university programs, university grants, and contracts. The UPO develop goals, objectives, and strategies for a comprehensive university program geared to meet the requirements of the NASA strategic plan and the needs of LaRC, and brief all levels of Center management on its accomplishment.
Lloyd (Babe, Dad, Daddy/Papa) will be greatly missed!
A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Macedonia Baptist Church.
