IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leroy "Lee"
Franklin Moore, Iii
June 9, 1945 – January 8, 2025
Leroy Franklin Moore, III, "Lee Moore", as everyone knew him, passed away January 8th, 2025.
Lee was predeceased by his parents Leroy F. Moore, Jr. and Annette Sibley Moore, oldest son Leroy Franklin Moore, IV "Skipper" and Lee's canine sidekick Lexie. He leaves behind his wife, Janice, of 55 years. He also leaves his son Kyle and wife Heather Moore; Skipper's widow Ai Moore; grandchildren Kai Lawson Moore(19), Kira Lee Moore (17) , Kensington Llane Moore (13) and Ai's daughter Anh Thuy Vu(16); and 2 grand dogs River and Haddie.
When you hear the name Lee Moore it is a toss up whether that conjures visions of a handlebar moustache or a fire truck. It probably depends on how long you knew him. After getting past the fascination of his perfectly groomed moustache everyone met a gentle, smart (total numbers guy), loyal and giving man who served as an Air Force medic during the Vietnam War and volunteered innumerable hours to his Olde Wythe community.
Most notable was Lee's 53 years in the Wythe Volunteer Fire Co. He began as a volunteer firefighter in 1972. He held several positions until he ultimately became the Fire Chief in 1987. He proudly and dutifully served as chief until the day he died. The cackle of his fire radio was constant in his home and car. Janice and their boys willingly hunkered down during the worst weather storms while Lee helped protect the community (Janice may or may not have actually used the word "willingly"). Lee's drive was the camaraderie among his fellow firefighters. The brotherhood. If you know..you know.
Lee's community involvement included coaching for Wythe Little League as he got to know many of the neighborhood kids and parents. For years he was visible during Hampton Bay Days as he was in charge of the waterfront fireworks on behalf of the fire department. Also on behalf of the fire department he volunteered on the sidelines of Hampton High School football games (you can't crush a crab!) and at the Wythe Community Center.
Lee was a long time member of St.Rose of Lima and Korean Martyrs Catholic Parish. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Rose of Lima Council 11264.
Lee and Janice enjoyed years of sailing and partying at Hampton Yacht Club and passed their love of the water to Skipper and Kyle. Lee also spent years golfing with friends every Sunday until a hand injury stifled his swing. Most recently you could find Lee and Janice traveling to multiple complexes across Virginia to cheer on their soccer playing grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on February 2, 2025 at Hampton Yacht Club from 2-5pm. Lee will be honored by a tolling of the bells at 3:00pm.
