Obituary

– Leonard George "Larry" Stemann, resident of the Chamberlin at Ft Monroe and former resident of Pittsburgh PA, was born in 1930, and passed away peacefully on July 12, 2018. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. Larry was born and raised in Cincinnati OH, the son of Leonard George Stemann and Clara Lorraine Hentz Stemann.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Marjorie Hillebrand; brother Robert Joseph Stemann; brother-in-law William Hillebrand and very special sister-in-law Marian Kennedy. Larry is survived by his wife of 62 years Joan A. Stemann, sister-in-law Mary Ellen Stemann, and his six children: Alice, Leonard, Lori, Audrey, Thomas and John, and their spouses. He was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

After graduating from the University of Cincinnati, Larry served in the U.S. Army , and then worked as a metallurgical engineer, settling in Pittsburgh PA working for over 30 years of his career with Westinghouse, contributing to many power generation, space and U.S. Navy programs. He was a longtime parishioner at St. Louise de Marillac in Upper St. Clair. Larry loved tennis and played for nearly his entire life on many courts around the world. He was a die-hard Pittsburgh sports fan, following the Pirates, Steelers, and University of Pittsburgh teams. He cherished time with his family, and especially liked traveling with his wife to visit his extended family. He will be remembered for his friendly spirit and his smile.

A private memorial service is planned in his honor.
