Lelia Marie Howell Mundie, 95, passed peacefully on August 29, 2016. Born in Nansemond Co. she was a Hampton resident since 1946. Mrs. Mundie was a faithful member for 70 years of First United Methodist Church in Downtown Hampton. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, served as a Sunday School Teacher and member of Circle 6. She was the founder and director of the First United Methodist Church Weekday School where she also served as a teacher.
Mrs. Mundie was a devoted wife and mother and was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Robert L. Mundie; and is survived by her children, Ryland Vincent Mundie, Robert Leonard Mundie, Jr., Cynthia Gail Morrill, and Richard Calvin Mundie; a sister, Ann Howell Pierce; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm, Thursday, September 1, 2016 at First United Methodist Church Downtown Hampton by the Rev. Candace L. Martin with interment to follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5-6:30 pm at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home.
