IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lawrence Douglas
Foust
January 7, 2019
Lawrence "Doug" Douglas Foust, 80, passed into eternal life on Monday, January 7, 2019. The son of John Wesley Foust and Evelyn Pelletier Foust, he was born in Greensboro NC and raised in Pleasant Garden. After graduation from Wake Forest, he began a 36 year career in the Social Security Administration where he served in various management positions including Area Director of the West Virginia and the Virginia Social Security offices and as Deputy Regional Commissioner for 150 offices in the Philadelphia Region. In 1987 he returned to Virginia as District Manager of the Social Security offices in Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach. He ran the offices with a determination to provide the best in public service until he retired in 1996.
Doug loved the game of golf and until he was no longer able to play was a longtime member of the Cedar Point Country Club. (After that he continued to engage by faithfully watching and sympathizing over Phil Michelson's ups and downs). He enjoyed classic jazz and was a fan of all types of electronic gadgets "As Seen on TV" and QVC.
Most of all, Doug took pride in being a gentleman. He was a loving father and husband who was generous, witty and honest. He was gifted at organizing projects and people who was always willing to see both sides of an issue and the first to help someone in need.
At the end of his life, he stoically faced his illnesses with determination and confidence in the Lord.
He was blessed in being able to enjoy his last days at home for Christmas, New Year's Eve and the Eagles win over Chicago.
Doug is survived by his wife of 33 years, Maureen Boothman Foust, his son, John Douglas Foust of the home and daughter, Debra Foust (Melvyn Crawford) of Richmond. He is also survived by his aunt, Marilyn Glidewell, brother in law Paul Boothman , sister in law Regina and husband James Anthony as well as nieces and nephews.
