Obituary

Laura Jo Thornburg Hover, 76, died Saturday, September 17, 2022. Born in Rochester, Indiana, she was a longtime Hampton Roads resident and retired from Sentara Medical Group in Norfolk.  She was a US Navy veteran.

Laura enjoyed being part of the Golden Thimble Sewing Guild in Hampton, was a huge NASCAR fan and loved being at the races at Langley Speedway cheering on family and friends and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents, Lorrell "Pete" and Betty Thornburg, survivors include her daughters, Holly Rayfield (Craig) and Melissa Shiflett (Dean); her sisters, Brenda Cerlesi and Marva Thornburg; her brother, Jay Thornburg (Trudy); six grandchildren, Todd Crozier, Ashleigh Burgess (Chris), Dakota and Shaylynne Davis, and Courtney and Jamie Shiflett; and six great-grandchildren, Bristol Carr, Julia Johnson and Adalynn, Kinsley, Levi and Nova Waters.  Along with numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

The family will receive friends from 5-7PM on Monday, October 3, 2022 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. A graveside service with Navy honors will be conducted at 10:00 AM Tuesday at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. State Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk.

Memorials may be made to the Lions Club, 300 W. 22 nd Street, Oak Brook, IL 60523.
