Larry Dean Newman, 65, went to be with the Lord, January 16, 2022, after a short illness.  Born in Henderson, NC, a Peninsula resident since 1964, he loved the Dallas Cowboys, Nascar, boxing, every genre of music, westerns, gangster movies and the Outerbanks.  Larry was a captivating storyteller and had the best sense of humor!

He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph B. Newman; mother, Gilbert H. Jahn; step-father, Horst Jahn; brother, Ralph "Benny" Newman, Jr.; and sister, Katherine "Rainey" Vick.   Survivors include his daughters, Jennifer Gear (Ryan), and Laura Jayne Newman; sisters, Vicki Burton (Steve) and Sherry Winn (Randy); brothers, Steven "Steve" Jahn (Tari) and Jonathan Scott Jahn; sister-in-law, Michelle Newman and brother-in-law, Steve Vick; thirteen nieces and nephews and four grand-nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 PM Monday, January 24, 2022 at Liberty Baptist Church, Hampton with interment to follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 3-4:00 PM Sunday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Avenue, Hampton.
