Larry Jay Lackey, born in Canton, NC on May 21, 1949, died at his home on Thursday, September 27, 2018 after a long illness. He graduated from Hampton High School in 1968, joined the Marines in 1969, and served until 1977. He worked in the Newport News Shipyard for over 40 years, of which 39 were consecutive. He was preceded in death by his father, Jess Lackey; mother, Ennis Lackey; sister, Barbara Jean Day; and brother-in-law, Bobby Day.

He is survived by his son, Jess Todd Lackey; granddaughter, Brittany Hedges; grandson, Austin Lackey; sister, Carolyn Mooney; brothers, Billy, William (Doug) and Gary Lackey. Also by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He will be deeply missed by his family. He was a warm and loving person.
