Larry R. James, 66, passed away Monday, January 23, 2107. Born in Montgomery County, MD he has been a resident of Newport News, VA since 1970.

As a teenager in Pennsylvania, he loved to hunt, fish, and just be outdoors. He delivered newspapers for years and worked summers with the PA Department of Forest and Waters, clearing trails and campsites. He also loved photography and for years always had a camera by his side.

In June of 1970, Larry moved to Virginia and began, under the tutelage of Joe Saylor, his 46 year long career in golf course maintenance. A job he continued to love, even after his retirement in 2016.

Larry was preceded in death by his loving wife Diane; father William B.; mother, Yvonne H. and brother Bill.   He is survived by his brothers, Steve and Mike James both of Newport News; children, Jackie Randolph, Jason James, Jennifer Freer, J.B. Sawicky, Tony Sznoluch and Jim Sznoluch; numerous grandchildren and wonderful mother-in-law Doris Irwin.

He will sorely miss his special aunts, Ada Saylor (Do I smell cookies?) and Joannie Johnson, for the talks and just being you. He also wants a special goodbye to his private nurse Tina.

The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 PM Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions, 2609 Cunningham Dr. in Hampton.
