LaRona Marciel Roe, 89, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2014. Born in Lakeland, Florida, she lived in Hampton for most of her adult life. LaRona was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She worked as a welder at Jacksonsville Shipyard and a sheet metal specialist at Newport News Shipbuilding, but her most important job was just being mom to her kids and their many friends. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and Resurrection Lutheran Church, serving in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and other auxiliary groups. She loved doing crafts, playing cards, and most of all, fishing. LaRona was an avid volunteer, giving her time in service to the Langley Air Force Base hospital, school PTAs, Cub Scouts, and assisting with Bingo at local Senior Citizen facilities.

She was preceded in death by her husband, TSgt Leon O. Roe, Sr., and is survived by her four children: Leon O. Roe, Jr. of Windsor, NC; Deborah R. Spruill (Eddie) of Smithfield, VA; John M. Roe of Chesapeake, VA; and Randi R. Green (Dave) of Newport News, VA. She is also survived by her grandchildren Shannon, Brandon, Grey, Michael, and Sarah; 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 3-5 PM at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home 245 S. Armistead Ave, Hampton. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 PM Sunday in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home Chapel. A private interment will be held of LaRona's ashes alongside her husband Leon in the Hampton National Cemetery.
