Lander Chavers, Sr., 93, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2015. Born in Waverly, VA, he was a Peninsula resident for over 26 years. Lander graduated from Hampton Institute, served during World War II in the Coast Guard and retired as a teacher from the Washington DC Public School System. He is survived by five children, and many grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday at Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions in Hampton, VA and also from 10:00 - 11:00 am Thursday at Ebenezer AME Church in Ft.
