Lacey Sanford
Hudgins
April 10, 1940 – August 19, 2018
Lacey Sanford Hudgins passed away Sunday evening, August 19, 2018 after a lengthy illness. Born April 10, 1940 to the late Dr. T. Ryland and Janet Hutchison Sanford, she grew up in old Warwick County, having attended Warwick High School and Mary Baldwin College where she graduated in 1962.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, William L. Hudgins, Jr.; a son, William L. Hudgins, III; and four grandsons, Houlder, Dell, Frazer and Porter Hudgins. Also, she is survived by her cat Princess.
Lacey was interested and very active in the Peninsula Junior League and later in the Sustainer Group; and was also a member of the Charles Taylor Library and the Friends of the Library. She was a member of numerous genealogical societies and was national president of the Daughters of Colonial Wars; travelling to numerous states for meetings. She was also an active member of The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America. Lacey enjoyed boating and fishing and having dinners with friends at the Hampton Yacht Club. She was also fond of spending time at the beach with her family.
A funeral service will be conducted at St. John's Episcopal Church at 11am on Thursday, August 23, 2018 by the Rev. Samantha Vincent Alexander and the Rev. Mark Riley. After the interment in the church cemetery, a reception will follow in the parish house. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St John's Cemetery Fund in care of St John's Episcopal Church, 100 West Queen's
Way, Hampton, VA 23669.
The family would like to thank the staffs of The Newport Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center and the Virginia Health Hospice Service for all their help and kindness.
