Obituary

Kristie Ann MacLean-Giglio was born on June 9, 1987, and died on December 23, 2025 after a long and harrowing cancer battle. She is preceded in death by her father William Patrick MacLean in 1998 and father-in-law Mike Giglio in 2023, and is survived by her husband, Doug Giglio; and their two children, Kit (6) and Eva (8), as well as her mother, Alison Lamont; sisters Amanda MacLean and Maria Cox; mother-in-law Carol Giglio; brother-in-law, Christopher Giglio (Madeline); sister-in-law,  Melissa Giglio Bowers; Uncle Andy; Aunt Barbara; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

To some, she will be remembered affectionately as "Mommy," who described having her children as being given "pure, unbridled joy."

Others will remember the "young filmmaking niece" and daughter, whose productions like "The Jungles of Zamboora" and "Who Stole Father Christmas?" despite limited reach, were worthy of critical acclaim. Her sisters and cousins will remember her as a bouncy little girl with a wild spark in her eye (the same now gleaming from her daughter's), a nonstop giggle and the biggest, most beautiful smile - making special "concoctions" in the kitchen, stocking the fridge with homemade salads, and watching Disney's Fantasia on repeat. As a child, she proclaimed her dream to become an "actress-slash-model," and as she grew older, she channeled her creativity into high school drama and choir. She was an active member of the International Thespians Society and won "Best Supporting Actress" for the school production during her senior year.

At age 18, Kristie moved from Arizona to Austin, TX, where she learned how much she loved to cook, but left her steak unattended twice in front of her aunt and uncle's steak-swiping chow-shepherd. She put her gorgeous smile to work and began a short career as a model, working in Austin's extensive local film and photography scene, which served as an avenue for gaining expertise in makeup and cosmetic arts. She worked as a makeup artist for a number of years after moving back to Arizona, a job she said made her "actually miss working" when both cancer and the pandemic hit.

In 2016, she met Doug Giglio, whom she soon married and described as "the best father to my babies I could ever want." She had her happiest years then, and she thrived in her life as a wife and mother like a philodendron in her infamous garden of house plants.

She was courageous through every stage of her battle with colon cancer (though she would never admit that), and she continued living life fully by gardening, making jewelry, doing makeup, cooking elaborate and delicious meals, celebrating World Goth Day, and of course, learning as much information as possible about any particular topic that sparked her interest, until she was herself an authority on it. She was passionate about social justice, food being cooked the right way, story-driven pop culture, queer pride, her pets ("cats are a lesson in consent"), and her family whom she loved so fiercely.

We will always remember her sharp wit, gripping honesty, her dark humor, and the way she spoke truth candidly to her children, husband, and anyone else who would listen.

She is gone too soon, and will be missed too deeply for words.
