IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kenneth Cole
Morris
February 1, 1950 – June 9, 2018
Kenneth Cole Morris, 68, died June 9, 2018, after a long battle with cancer.
Born February 1, 1950, Kenny was a Hampton native and lifelong resident. A Hampton High School graduate, he played trumpet in the Crabbers' renowned Marching 100 band.
After serving three years in the United States Navy, Kenny returned to his love of music, playing in several local rock bands throughout the 1970s and '80s. Inspired by the horn based sounds of Chicago and Blood, Sweat, and Tears, he became a founding member of local nightclub favorite, Danny and the Delnotes.
Kenny also worked as a painter and electrician for many years, until his health began to decline. In retirement, he was a loyal fan of the Washington Redskins--win or lose--and a collector of all types of team memorabilia.
Even in the face of disease, Kenny was known for his unwavering sense of humor and his hearty, chuckling laugh. He could always elicit a smile to match his own.
He was predeceased by his mother, Ethel M. Morris, and his father, Elmer C. Morris. He is survived by his wife, Jan Sateren; stepson, Lee Sateren (Selene); stepdaughter, Kimberly Hansin; daughter, Miranda Hampton (Gene); five grandchildren; and sisters Cindy Davis and Mary Graves.
A memorial service will be held Monday, June 18, 5 p.m., at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave., Hampton, Va., 23669. In lieu of flowers, the family s uggests donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or to International Cooperating Ministries, for a church to be built in Kenny ' s memory.
