Obituary

Our Lord and Savior welcomed Kenneth Chandler Mitchell, 50, into His loving arms on Sunday, January 28, 2018. Born in Hampton on December 16, 1967, Kenny was a lifelong Fox Hill resident. He attended Kecoughtan High School and then made his mark on the world becoming a master carpenter. He was sought after by many and appreciated by everyone for his workmanship.

Preceded in death by his father, Robert W. Mitchell; he is survived by his wife of 20 years, Bonnie L. Mitchell; their two sons, Nathaniel Wilson (17) and Luke Robert (12); his mother, Patricia A. Mitchell of Palmyra, VA; his sister, Robin Eubank (Fred); brothers, Robert W. Mitchell, Jr. (Kristy) and Charles Gregory Mitchell (Teresa); many nieces and nephews and many devoted friends including his K9 friend, Mr. B, as he called him.

Kenny loved his family first and foremost. He enjoyed the many special times of rooting on the UVA Cavaliers with his boys and family, cultivating a garden, or fishing at Grandmommy's Lake. He loved to provide and prepare special dinners for his wife who he affectionately referred to as "My Lady". Kenny would brighten Bonnie's day by surprising her with little thoughtful gifts, never failing to bring a smile.

He loved the great outdoors, with a deep appreciation for all things green and growing. Sunflowers thrived under his care and feathered friends brought him much pleasure as well. He shared with Nate and Luke that his passion for fishing first began as a boy with his dad. Together they would fish for Spanish mackerel at the Bay Bridge Tunnel. He was respected by many on the waters of the bay, lake, rivers and ponds spanning across Virginia. It has been said that Kenny could catch that which no one else reeled in. Fellow anglers claim that they would study his technique to learn his success, alas to no avail. Where others said there was no catch, Kenny invariably found them. He had "the knack". His love for the outdoors and his passion for fishing and hunting will be fondly remembered by the many friends he developed over the years. He will be missed by each and every one.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 5, 2018 at Noon, at Fox Hill Road Baptist Church, Hampton, VA. Arrangements by R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, downtown Hampton. www.rhaydensmith.com.

Kenny was a blessed man and a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing him. We love you Kenny.
