Obituary

Hampton-

Ken Fowler wants everyone to know that he entered Heaven's Gates on Tuesday, May 2, while surrounded by family and friends. He fought a good fight for more than two years, not confessing defeat or despair, but was ushered home to glory after his frail body finally gave out. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Cindy, their children, Courtney (Julie) and Alex (Kristin), and seven grandchildren (Daniel Dieringer Jr., Samantha Fowler, Arianna Dieringer, Austin Dieringer, Chet Fowler, Hunter Fowler, Hailey Fowler). He has also gone ahead of his loving parents, Berton and Jacque Fowler, and his brothers, Larry (Ruth), Keith (Jane), and Todd (Jen), and many nieces and nephews.

Turns out that the Daily Press lost one of their most ardent "Dear Editor" contributors. (We wonder how Hampton City Council will get along without him!)

He regularly enjoyed golf at some of the local courses, and went on golf outings each year with many of his friends. He played softball for many years, and was also an avid mediocre pool player. But when it came to professional sports, to Ken, none could compare to his beloved New York Yankees or Denver Broncos.

Ken enjoyed outings to his favorite "department" store, Home Depot, where, if he so chose, he could add to his wonderful collection of hammers. These he would hang in his "man cave", alongside the hundreds of hats he had also accumulated over the years (a necessity, given that he was blessed with a receding hairline!)

On Sundays, he could usually be found napping…er, attentively watching one of his favorite pastimes, NASCAR, while "his" driver, Jimmie Johnson, was busily working his way toward the front of the pack.

More often than not, regardless of the weather or temperature, he could be found manning his charcoal (definitely not gas!) grill, preparing the best burgers imaginable. He became a "GrillMaster"… ask anyone that had the pleasure of enjoying what he had grilled! He was pretty much a perfectionist about everything, and this was no exception!

Ken and Cindy regularly enjoyed his grilled creations on their many camping trips, often to one of the Virginia Beach or Eastern Shore campgrounds, to which they had become regular visitors.
