Kenneth G. Butler died November 23, 2023 surrounded by his family. A native of Georgia, he spent his childhood in Norfolk where he was a graduate of Maury High School. Kenneth would go on to graduate from Old Dominion University with his bachelor's degree and then The College of William and Mary with his master's. Kenneth worked for years at Hampton High School before finishing out his career at Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather as well as a great friend. He was a past president of the Wythe Exchange Club as well as a Hampton Master Gardener. He was a skilled gardener and volunteered in the rose garden at Norfolk Botanical Gardens. Kenneth was a docent at the Chrysler Museum as well as the Mariners Museum. He loved to exercise and was passionate about running marathons and races. During his time at Hampton High School he coached the swim team and enjoyed playing golf with the faculty group.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Florence P. Butler; children, Kara Haltiwanger (Garrett) and Mark Spangenberg (Theresa); brother, Keith Butler (Barbara); grandchildren, Corinne Beaver (Jake) and Lauren Hudspeth; and great-granddaughter Natalie Beaver.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff and care team at Commonwealth Assisted Living as well as a special thanks to Diane Goldsmith for her wonderful support and friendship.

The family will receive friends at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 from 4:30-5:30PM.
