Karen Bureman, 72, died Wednesday, March 6, 2024. Born in Wilmington, DE, she has been a Hampton resident for the last 44 years where she retired as Assistant to the Executive Director of the Hampton Redevelopment and Housing Authority. A devout catholic, she was a very active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and volunteered at the Thrift Store as well as delivering communion to those who could not attend mass. Karen loved being a mother and grandmother, she was an avid traveler, and enjoyed being at the beach. If you were having a bad day, all you had to do was go see Karen, and your day would become brighter. She was full of compassion and had a huge heart. Her empathy was boundless and her positivity was contagious. She brought joy to everything she did.

Survivors include her husband, David R. Bureman; her daughter, Karen Patricia Barfield; her son, Jeffrey Hall and his fianceé, Tammy Renee Dale; two stepsons, Jeffrey Leigh Bureman and wife, Paz and Jerome R. Bureman and wife, Zwindi; four sisters, Charlotte Anderson, Rosemary Shevchuck,  Ann Platt, and Teresa Reed; and five grandchildren, Mya Rose Hall, Kaley Bureman, Aiden James Hall, Brianna Renee Hall, and James Thomas Griffin.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Karen's urn will be placed at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk.
