Obituary

June Kathleen Yaskowsky, 81, went to be with the Lord on January 1, 2025.  Born June 28, 1943, in Bloomfield, New Jersey, she was a longtime Yorktown resident.  As a teenager, June overcame a serious auto accident that threatened her life and ability to ever walk again. With her faith and fortitude, she fought and recovered to live a life of devotion to God.

As a young adult, June worked as a legal secretary and administrative assistant.  She traveled as a military spouse where she sang with the Skylarks chorus and volunteered with the Red Cross as a Medevac caregiver. June spent the last half of her life on the Peninsula where she enjoyed working many years at the Salvation Army of the Virginia Peninsula and in food services at Busch Gardens.  She loved cooking and baking and passed down several of her favorite Russian recipes.  Her family looks forward to our annual "pierogi-making day" with her every January and will continue the tradition in her honor.  She also had an affinity for strawberry milkshakes, Hallmark movies, merlot, the music of Dean Martin, and Uno's sausage pizza and also loved a good dollar store shopping spree.

June was preceded in death by her parents Michael and Olga Oleson and sister Elaine DeMilia.  She is survived by her daughter Tanya Herrmann (Michael), son Michael Yaskowsky (Holly), sisters MaryAnn Brennan and Martha Skinner, granddaughter Kristina Herrmann, grandson Matthew Herrmann, many nieces and nephews, and her loving church family at St. Basil the Great Orthodox Church and previous congregation at Dormition of the Theotokos Orthodox Church.

Visitation will take place Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 1-2 pm at St. Basil the Great Antiochian Orthodox Church in Hampton, with funeral service at 2 pm and interment at Parklawn Memorial Park following.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or St. Basil the Great Antiochian Orthodox Church in Hampton.
