Obituary

June Ream McElheney of Acton, MA (formerly of Hampton, VA) passed away peacefully on Friday, November 10, 2023, at Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln, MA. The youngest of 7 children, she was born and educated in Johnstown, PA where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse and practiced for over 30 years.

She is predeceased by her husband James R. McElheney, and survived by her daughter Carla Kollien and husband Alan, step-daughter Debora Bessette and husband Robert, step-son James R. McElheney Jr. and wife Wanda, and beloved grandchildren Grant and Faith Kollien.

June was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. She was affectionately known as Nana to all who knew and loved her. She always had a kind word and compliment for everyone she met. Being a grandmother brought her unmeasurable joy. She spent her time ringside at her granddaughter's horse shows, watching and critiquing every round. At her grandson's swim meets she could be heard cheering over the crowd encouraging him to speed up and touch the wall. She traveled the world visiting 13 countries and 30 states, and was an unofficial member of the Polar Bear Club for her dip in the Arctic Ocean at Prudhoe Bay, AK. She was a talented organist, crafter, singer, painter, cat lover, history buff, and avid reader. She will be remembered for her kindness, sense of humor, great advice, and deep and endearing love for her family and friends.

During her brave fight against metastatic breast cancer, she was provided outstanding care by her team of physicians, nurses, and staff at Emerson Hospital, Mass General Cancer Center at Emerson Hospital, Mass General Brigham Community Physicians - Westford, and the staff of Care Dimensions.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 15 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Acton, MA at 11 AM. Family will receive friends beginning at 10 AM. Burial at Hampton Memorial Gardens, Hampton, VA. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to her favorite charity St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org/donate
