Judith G. Smith, passed away on Saturday July 27, 2024. She was born on November 17, 1942, in Hampton, Virginia to Ryland C. and Viola K. Gary. She was predeceased by her mother, Viola K. Wood; father, Ryland C. Gary; brothers, Brian and Wayne Gary; and a sister, Christine Bowers. Judy was a 1962 graduate of Hampton High School and had lived most of her life in Hampton.

Known as Judy to many, she loved to spoil those she loved making sure everyone was taken care of. She loved to decorate her home during the holidays.  Judy enjoyed shopping, working as a volunteer at Sentara Careplex where she spent over 20 years. She also enjoyed reading and going to the lake when they had a second home there. Her hobbies included: knitting, doing puzzles, collecting dolls and cross stitching. Judy held a strong faith in God.  Her home was always comfortable and welcoming. She loved her family with all her heart. Judy fought the good fight and will be missed by all who loved her.

Judy is survived by her husband, Bill; her daughter, Rosalind (Anderson, S.C.); her son, Jeffrey, (Portsmouth, VA); and her grandchildren, Richard, Kyla and Hannah. She also leaves behind her sister, Sharon; her brother, David Gary (Lynn); a niece, Cheri; a nephew, John; and a host of extended family and friends.

A special thanks goes to her care team Laurie Harris, M.D.; Dr. Chang and his staff at Virginia Oncology Associates; and the staff of Medi Home Health & Hospice.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 PM on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral from 11-12 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
