Joyce Dore Sgavicchio, lifelong resident of Hampton, passed into eternity at the age of 96 on Monday, May 6, 2019. She died at Dominion Village in Poquoson.  In the last few years Joyce suffered from dementia and recently had a stroke that finally took her life.

She worked as secretary to TRADOC surgeon at Fort Monroe for many years and where she met A. J. Sgavicchio. They were married in 1963. He had two children, Joseph (Joey) Sgavicchio (Shari) and Gail Harrold (Bryant).

She was a very kind and considerate person, not only with her own family, but also in helping others. The Lord gave her unusual strength and determination, which helped her go through some difficult challenges in her life. She had a lovely smile that warmed all of our hearts. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her children Linda Copper, Mark Copper (Sandra), and Margo Finkel; grandchildren Jason Finkel (Ashley) and Erica Liston (Ben); two great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.

Visitation and viewing will be held at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, on Armistead Avenue on Friday, May 10 from 6-7 p.m. The burial will be at Parklawn Memorial Park on Saturday at 10 a.m followed by a memorial service in the chapel at R. Hayden Smith at 11 a.m.

Friends and family are invited to the home of her daughter Margo, 22 Tiffany Lane, Hampton, following the memorial service.
