Josephine Hooker Ward, 78 departed this life on 3-18-2014. A longtime Hampton resident, she was born and raised in Henry County Virginia.

She was proceeded in death by her husband of 43 years, Henry Franklin Ward, parents Walter & Vergie Morton Hooker and her sisters, Hazel Compton and Linda Gauldin. She is survived by her children, Janet McCoig and husband Dr. Forrest McCoig, Kenneth Ward and wife, Lori, Thomas Ward and wife Deborah, Michael Ward and wife Dorothy, Tammy Maida and husband Edward, Jeffrey Ward and wife Julia, and Jennifer Routten and husband Kevin. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She enjoyed such activities as spending time with her grandchildren, fishing, playing Bingo and was well versed on both politics and current events. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of both the Emergency & Intensive Care departments at Sentara CarePlex for the wonderful care that they provided to her. In addition, the family would also like to extend their heart felt appreciation to those friends who traveled from both near and far to offer their support and comfort to her. A visitation will be held Thursday, March 20 ^th at 6:00-8:00 p.m. at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home 245 S. Armistead Ave, Hampton.
