Joseph B Mack II, 77, of Hampton, VA went home to be with the Lord on September 23, 2024. Joseph Is survived by his wife, Jeannie Mack; daughters Jennifer Mack and Carol Mack; and grandson, Chase Ostman. He is also survived by his sister, Joanne Giles; and nephews Gary and Jon Giles of Georgia. Joseph was predeceased by his parents Joseph B Mack Jr. and Dorothy A. Mack.
Joseph was born in Lancaster, PA in 1947. He was raised in York County and graduated from York High School in 1965. Joseph furthered his education by attending York Technical School for 4 years. He embarked on an extensive career in Nuclear Power to include Newport News Shipbuilding where he worked on both the Nimitz and Enterprise aircraft carriers as a nuclear instrument technician. He also completed the startup of the condensate polishing building at the Surry Nuclear Power Plant over the span of 11 years. His career eventually took him to Florida Power and Light in Miami, Florida where he was a plant supervisor for 15 years before returning to his home state of Virginia to retire.
As the son of a military father, he had the opportunity to experience living abroad in Hawaii, Korea and Japan. He had the opportunity to climb Mt. Fuji in Japan during his time in the Boy Scouts. When not working, Joseph was a devoted husband to his wife, Jeannie of 53 years and cherished both of his daughters, Jennifer and Carol. He loved spending time with his family and some of the best times were spent during vacations to his favorite place, Sanibel Island, Florida. He also had a great love for fishing ever since childhood and would spend many summers working with his father to refit their boat. His love of fishing has passed on to his grandson Chase. He also enjoyed sports and played basketball and baseball in his youth.
Joseph's family will host a funeral service on Friday October 4, 2024. A viewing will take place from 1:00pm-2:00pm with the funeral service to start at 2:00pm. The service will be held at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in Hampton, VA. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park
