Rev. Joseph Garrett, 81, died Friday, April 22, 2016. A native and lifelong resident of the Peninsula, Rev. Garrett retired after serving 28 years as Pastor of St. Luke Baptist Church in Plum Point, VA. He had also served in the Army stationed in Vietnam.

Rev. Garrett is survived by his wife, Flora Garrett; children, Michael Garrett, Charlene Travis, Carolyn Warner, Jacquelyn Johnson and Yvonne Washington; a sister, Conolia Slade; twenty grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home 245 S. Armistead Ave, Hampton. The family will receive friends Tuesday prior to the service from 1-2 PM.
