Evans, Jr.
November 25, 2023
Joseph J. Evans, Jr., 71, passed away on November 25, 2023. A lifelong resident of Fox Hill in Hampton, he was a 1971 graduate of Kecoughtan High School. He retired from the City of Hampton Assessor's Office in 2012. He was affectionately known as "Joey" since he was a child. He was a member of the Fox Hill Volunteer Fire Department for years. He spent his spare time years ago fishing the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay with his best friends and family. He spent most of his life doing what he loved most, hunting deer and turkeys primarily at Pons Hunt Club in Ivor and B&B Hunt Club in Southampton and Sussex Counties. He was always known as "Toad" when he was hunting.
Joey was preceded in death by his father Joseph J. Evans, Sr. and mother Alese White Evans. He is survived by his son, Joseph J. Evans, III (Little Toad); sisters, Judy E. Taylor (Jay), Jackie E. Davis and Gay E. Benson; nephews Taylor Benson and Billy Benson; as well as many cousins.
The family would like to thank Pons and B&B Hunt Clubs for all the joy, friendships, and fellowship they brought Joey during his life. He was a member of Pons Hunt Club for over 40 years and B&B for 10 years. He loved hunting these places and always told stories of the memories he made at these hunt clubs.
