Obituary

Jonathon A. Johnston, lifelong Buckroe resident, passed away at the age of 67 on December 23, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a graduate of Phoebus High School and spent a long career with the City of Hampton, where he retired as a Parks Master Technician after 42 years. Much of his time was spent at Darling Stadium. Jonathon loved fishing and was a regular at the old Buckroe Fishing Pier. He enjoyed working with his hands and loved to garden, do woodworking, and draw. He also enjoyed watching football. Most importantly, he will be remembered as a man who spent his life in the service of others. Jonathon was always someone who put others before himself and was always willing to lend a hand.

Jonathon was preceded in death by his father, Thomas S. Johnston and his mother, Ruth W. Johnston. He is survived by his wife, Janet B. Cole; son, Matthew B. Cole; brother, David Johnston (Terry); niece, Sara Watson (Cody); and nephew, Matthew Johnston (Hillary).
